When planning to build or buy your home in Israel, you have probably asked yourself the following questions:
- Do I actually need an interior designer?
- Is the architect not good enough?
- Can’t I do this by myself?
I will try to answer these questions by describing what interior design in Israel means:
What does an interior designer do?
Interior design means developing a design concept for the spaces of your home, planning the details of how it will be done, and then overseeing the execution. It takes into consideration all aspects of the design: the practical ones, like functionality and technic, and the artistic ones, like atmosphere, feeling, emotional effects.
In order to do this well, your interior designer needs to:
- Get to know you and your family well, to understand your needs, your dreams, your plans for the future.
- Be familiar with all technical aspects of your home: construction, air conditioning, heating, lighting, plumbing, “smart home” technology.
- Have a deep understanding of how the building process in Israel works: how we organize a project, whom we turn to carry it out, what are the prices and when do you pay for each step, who is responsible for what, how to stay within your budget.
- Be able to choose and coordinate all the materials, textures, and colors which make your home unique and beautiful – just that, a place you feel is your home.
- Know where to shop for furniture, art, carpets, drapes, accessories…. Where to find the best buys for the best prices.
When do you need an interior designer?
- When you need advice about buying a property in Israel, and are not sure if a renovation is possible, how to go about doing it, and how much it will cost.
- When you have already purchased your new home, but it needs a renovation.
- When you buy an apartment “on paper”, which is quite common in Israel. This means the apartment is in the process of being built and will be ready in a year or two – so now is the right time to incorporate everything you wish into it.
- When you feel your home does not need a complete renovation, it is just a little washed out or outdated and needs a makeover, or some freshening up.
- Or even when you love your home, but the kitchen is bothering you…or the bedroom…or anything else!
If you are faced with any one of these situations, you are most welcome to give me a call!
