How do you make a small apartment look bigger?
Here’s an example of an apartment design in Tel Aviv, where we did just that.
The principles that guided us in designing the small apartment so that the illusion of a larger space would be created:
- White walls illuminate the apartment. Upholstery fabrics and colorful curtains enrich it and make it look more versatile and larger.
- We will choose relatively small furniture, which leaves a lot of space around them. Choose small furniture, with an airy design, and glass surfaces that will give the illusion of space.
- Laying parquet along the length of the apartment emphasizes the dimension of length and makes the apartment look larger.
- The storage is in built niches, as here in the picture, and not in separate furniture. This way we will make good use of all the existing space, and will not overload the space with many heavy furniture.
- The large window to the outside enlarges the apartment outwards. We will design it to attract attention.
- We will provide several lighting sources: general lighting, standing lamps, wall lamps and table lamps. Each such lighting focus emphasizes a different part of the space, while creating harmony with the other parts.
The same principles will also be used when we design a larger apartment, and want to create the illusion of size in one of its spaces.
